Many thanks to those of you who sponsored Alison Morgan in the ‘Lakeland 50’ on 30/31 July.
We were pleased to hear to that, despite running through heavy rain for the greater part of the race, Alison completed this challenging 50-mile trail event in a little over 15 hours.
As well as the rain, she also had to negotiate some steep and slippery ascents and descents in the final few miles in almost total darkness – with foraging bats swooping over her head and only the light of her head torch to guide her.
1,324 runners (749 men and 435 women) entered the event. 143 runners failed to complete the course. Alison, who was competing in her first ultra-trail race, finished in the top half of the combined field and in the top third of the women’s field.
Alison says she enjoyed her race – despite the rain, the pain and the bats. She is already planning to run again next year and to finish in under 15 hours.
To date, we estimate that Alison has raised over £1,000 in donations for the Family Centre. As some donations are still coming in, we will publish the final total on our website in the course of the next week or two.
Thank you again for your support.
