Counselling for Children and Young People

St. Joseph’s Family Centre works in partnership with CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) to provide person centred counselling for children and young people aged 6-18 who reside in the Warrington area and have a Warrington GP.

At differing points in their life, children may need help and support with a number of issues that have an effect on their mental health and wellbeing.

Our small team of qualified and experienced practitioners deliver programmes of personalised 1-2-1 Counselling, using recognised methods and creative activities to support children and young people to understand their feelings, develop positive self-management tools and encourage better mental health and wellbeing.

Referrals for this service come through CAMHS Warrington as the single point of access. Self-referrals can be made by calling CAMHS on (01925) 575 904. Alternatively, referrals can be made to CAMHS through schools, GP’s, Mental Health Support Team (within schools), Social Workers, and other recognised professionals.

Systemic Family Practice

We have recently introduced a Trainee Systemic Family Practitioner into our team. Our Trainee Practitioner works with families, supporting them to explore their relationships in the hope of increasing understanding of each others needs, promoting positive communication and considering new ways of coping with challenges within the family context.

Referrals for our Trainee Systemic Family Practitioner come through either our Counsellors for existing clients or through CAMHS Warrington.
